Bullying
is what happens when someone repeatedly hurts or humiliates another person.
Name-calling, rumor spreading, physical aggression or leaving people
out on purpose are also forms of bullying. It can happen in person, in writing, on cell phones, online and on social networks (cyber-bullying),
in the school, on the bus, at home -- anywhere. Wherever it happens, bullying is NOT acceptable.
Bullying is a big problem that affects millions of kids regardless of their background. It's a serious problem in schools.
It's a problem that needs to be solved – now.
Bullies are likely to pick on smaller, younger or more vulnerable kids. They target kids who are somehow different, who don't wear the fashionable clothes, who come from a minority ethnic, social or racial group. They might be clumsy or overweight, brainy or socially awkward – it doesn't take much to inspire someone who intends to hurt, humiliate or exclude someone from their circle of friends. It not only hurts the kids who are bullied – it also affects bystanders, especially if they feel they can't do anything about it.
Cyber-bullying can go viral and cause ongoing humiliation that's hard to stop.
It's not a joke or a game. Bullying is NOT acceptable.
